Would High Speed intercity Bus in the USA be viable?

As someone who has done some traveling vs Greyhound and have considered them for long trips, I am amazed by how much it gets beat by low fare airlines. I talked about this (along with more luxurious rail travel) in a previous topic. The Greyhound trips will take 7 to 8 times longer, considering that planes move about 9 times faster than buses going conservative highway speeds. Greyhound can be half as cheap as an airline, but for long distances, the very long hours spent on the bus make it more than undesirable.The new Obama administration has secured funding for high speed rail and rumors suspect that it will lead to >100 mph trains on existing rail lines. Now, freight rail is profitable in the USA at shipping heavy materials (like coal). Slower trains (<90mph) tend to be cheaper and thus more profitable. Amtrak leases most of its rail from the private railroad operators that run those slower, but profitable freight trains. High speed and low speed trains have trouble occupying the same line.On the interstate highways, various speed traffic can somewhat coexist. So, why not have high speed buses? Since the speed limit on most interstates is 75 mph, if one went for an aggressive 50 mph difference in speed, you get a respectable 125 mph. Obviously, this can only be done on the interstate with sparse traffic, with proper horizontal clearances on each side of the highway. The hours with sparse traffic will vary, and in some places, be only late at night. These buses will require very experienced drivers, with tight restrictions on how many hours per day they can drive. Probably give them night vision, powerful headlights, special flashing lights on top, etc. Their bus control network should keep track of poor driving conditions, (due to weather, car accidents), and have proper rerouting. They should be purchasing traffic condition data from various companies, or generate their own. Greyhound would frequently have late buses, which lead to missed transfers and waiting for the next bus. A fast bus system can't have that.
